Chaperone Policy Parkgrove Medical Centre
Patient information
Chaperones are there to support patients and staff.
A chaperone should usually be a health care professional. The chaperone will have been trained for the role they are undertaking and be familiar with the procedure involved.
Chaperones should routinely be offered before intimate examinations.
You can request a chaperone is present during any health interaction that you feel uncomfortable with.
Your family member or friend can not act as a chaperone. However, you can request that a family member or friend be present during your examination to support you.
If no chaperone is available during your appointment you will be informed and your examination may need to be delayed to a later date when a suitable chaperone is available as long as this delay would not be detrimental to your health.
